After completing his medical degree at St. George University Medical School, Dr. Rafiq entered residency training at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark, New Jersey where he served as chief resident.

He is board certified in internal medicine and has practiced as an internal medicine doctor in Houston since 2009 with special clinical interests in diabetes mellitus and coronary heart disease.

In 2012, Dr. Rafiq was named Physician of the Year by Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital. Currently, Dr. Rafiq has the honor of serving a second year as Chair of Medicine at the hospital where he is a member of numerous medical and management committees including PIQR, Credentials, and Utilization Review. In addition, he is Chair of the Physician’s Advocacy and Communications Team (PACT) and participates in the pioneer program, a mentoring program at Memorial Southeast, slated to be implemented at other Memorial campuses.

Dr. Rafiq is fluent in Urdu, Hindi, and English and sees patients eighteen years of age and older. His mission is to provide the highest level of patient care and believes in treating each patient as though they were family members. He believes in the importance of listening to his patients and being available when they have questions or concerns. His overall practice goal is to develop long-term patient-physician relationships that contribute to the on-going health and well-being of each.

Dr. Rafiq makes his home in Houston with his wife and four children. He is particularly interested in travel and sporting activities and enjoys attending Rockets games. He and his family travel and enjoy the outdoors at every opportunity.
