Virginia Carney-Nelson, DO,
comes from a long-line of physicians and is an energetic, engaged doctor who is always on the forefront of her profession. She began her educational career in Meridian, then went to Mississippi State University with an eye toward becoming a vet, like her father and brother. But it was her family’s physician heritage that won out, and Dr. Carney-Nelson transferred to the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (West Virginia) and received her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine in 1995. She did her internship at the West Virginia/Charleston Area Medical Center and completed her Obstetrics and Gynecology residency at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA, in 1997. She completed another OB-GYN residency at Cooper Hospital/University Medical Center, Camden, NJ, in 2000.
Dr. Carney-Nelson is well-versed in DaVinci Robotic Surgery, a procedure that helps patients recover more quickly with minimum scarring. She opened The Nelson Center for Women, PA, in 2008 after working with other major women’s groups in Meridian. The Nelson Clinic for Women is associated with Rush Foundation Hospital of Meridian.
