Dr. Hermann was born in Los Alamos, New Mexico, the fifth of seven children (although his father received an advanced degree from M.I.T., he apparently didn’t realize what could stop the pregnancies!). After spending the first 10 years of his life in the Southwest, his family moved to the Chicago area. There he attended Northwestern University and received his medical degree from The Chicago Medical School where he was fortunate to have spent nearly two years at the infamous Cook County Hospital doing his clinical rotations. After finishing medical school at the age of 24, he returned to his beloved Southwest to complete a three-year residency at the University of Colorado. Following residency and prior to entering private practice, Dr. Hermann served as a commissioned officer in the United States Public Health Service caring for the indigent of New Mexico. He and his wife, Virginia, have been happily married for 25 years and have two children in college, Wes and Leila. He enjoys many sports, especially fly-fishing and volleyball, does a lot of reading, appreciates art, music and photography, and recently picked up playing the fiddle. He currently serves as a Deacon at Evergreen Christian Church. Dr. Hermann has always been passionate about the availability of healthcare for all, not only in the United States but throughout the world. Several years ago he participated in a month-long grassroots medical mission trip to Honduras following Hurricane Mitch. Realizing however that change starts locally, Dr. Hermann plans to further his passion by transforming Lakewood Family Medicine into a “patient-centered medical home”, placing the patient as the central focus of healthcare.
