Glenna Tolbert, MD

Dr. Glenna Tolbert is a double board-certified physician, who has specialized in physical medicine, rehabilitation, and spinal cord injury medicine since 1993.

Dr. Tolbert has developed holistic comprehensive approaches, and programs, to treat persons with disabilities, subsequent trauma, or illness. Secondly, she teaches and published her approaches as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine, UCLA David Geffen School Of Medicine. In addition, she is certified by the State of California as a Qualified Medical Examiner, (QME), for workers injured on the job.

WHAT KIND OF TRAINING DOES DR. TOLBERT HAVE?

As a rehabilitation physician, Dr. Tolbert has successfully completed one year of Internal Medicine training, and subsequently, a three-year PM&R Residency Program. She pursued additional training in Spinal Cord Medicine, and Interventional Pain Procedures.

WHAT CONDITIONS DO PM&R PHYSICIANS TREAT?

As a PM&R physician, Dr. Tolbert treats any disability resulting from disease or injury involving any organ system. The conditions that rehabilitation physicians manage span the entire spectrum, from the most complicated multiple trauma to injury prevention for athletes. HOW DOES DR.TOLBERT AS A REHABILITATION PHYSICIAN DIAGNOSE?

The specific diagnostic tools, same as those used by other physicians, consist of medical histories, physical examinations, and imaging studies, with the addition of special techniques in electrodiagnostic medicine like electromyography (EMG), nerve conduction studies, and somatosensory evoked potentials; and musculoskeletal diagnostic ultrasound. These techniques help Dr. Tolbert to diagnose conditions that cause pain, weakness, and numbness.
