Dr. Shoemaker has been a Board Certified Obstetrician/Gynecologist since 1989. He received his undergraduate degree at the University of Alabama, where he was a collegiate swimmer, earned his medical doctorate from Texas Tech University School of Medicine, and completed his residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. He chose Ob/Gyn in part because it was the only specialty that allowed him to both do surgery and develop lasting patient care relationships, although he also finds obstetrics an incredibly rewarding aspect of the specialty.
Dr. Shoemaker spent ten years in a large group practice in Corpus Christi, TX, but never felt it was a good fit for his patient care philosophy. Fate intervened when he and his wife, Claudia, visited friends who had relocated to Fairhope and concluded it was an ideal community to raise a family. He left the large group practice and in February of 1998 opened an independent practice here. This move allowed him to treat patients in the more personal way he prefers – listening to problems, not just cataloging symptoms, and getting to know them.
Dr. Shoemaker pioneered minimally invasive surgery in the Eastern Shore area. His expertise in minimally invasive laparoscopic surgeries led him to become proficient in the latest breakthrough in minimally invasive surgical options, daVinci robotic surgery. Dr. Shoemaker’s surgical expertise has led to his selection as a preceptor for the Minerva Surgical endometrial ablation technique, the Coloplast Atlis Single Incision Sling for treating female urinary incontinence, and the Coloplast Axis Dermis and Suspend Fascia Lata biologic tissue option for repairing pelvic organ prolapse.
When he’s not caring for his patients, Dr. Shoemaker spends time with his wife, Claudia, and his two children, Stewart and Mary Katherine. He enjoys golf and traveling with his wife, and he has completed two medical missions to Africa. He wants to one day be remembered as a physician who treated each of his patients like family, spending as much time with them as necessary to address their concerns, and making each of them the center of his attention.
Effective September 2019, Dr. Shoemaker will shift his treatment focus to gynecology and urogynecology.
My name is Lauren Shoemaker. I am from Camden, AL and moved to Baldwin County with my husband, Cody, in 2019. I received my bachelor’s in nursing from Auburn University at Montgomery and received my master’s in nursing from the University of South Alabama. My husband and I have two sweet children, our son is four and our daughter is two. When we are not at the tee ball fields with our children, we love to play golf together. I have been in healthcare for over seven years working in the emergency room, labor and delivery, and surgery. Women’s health is a passion of mine and I love to share my personal women’s health journey with my patients in hopes of offering a friend through their journey.
Dr. William Boyd
I started my career as an OB/GYN in 1993. I was an early adopter of minimally invasive surgery, performing thousands of surgeries, including nearly 1000 robotic hysterectomy cases, allowing women to be discharged from the hospital the day of surgery. Over the past five years, I have assisted other hospitals in developing their own OB hospitalist programs.? Now, I focus on the woman who has been told, “The way you feel is just a part of aging, and there is nothing to do about it.” My focus involves providing comprehensive women’s care for hormonal imbalance, urinary incontinence, and sexual function. This is a patient-centric model. At Epiphany Women’s Health, we focus on a functional medicine approach, improving women’s health by concentrating on lifestyle, diet, and daily activity.? I have been blessed with five children and eleven grandchildren. Our lifestyle includes prayer, community, and good sleep patterns. Our diet includes intermittent fasting, organic foods, and sugar reduction. And our life involves daily activities such as traveling, playing with our children and grandchildren, biking, lifting weights, walking, and gardening to name a few.? Epiphany has a genuine and altruistic focus…improve women’s health. Come journey with me and my team.
