Dr. Blacksten grew up in rural New Mexico. She graduated from New Mexico Highlands University with her Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and a concentration in Medical Technology. She worked as a Medical Technologist and Histocompatibility Technologist in local hospitals and at Tricore Reference Laboratory, and was a laboratory assistant at the University of New Mexico’s Medical Technology Program for several years before deciding to go back to school for her Doctorate in Medicine. After medical school, she completed one year of Pathology residency where she earned the Perry Lambird Pathology Resident Award, for outstanding work in her intern year. After this, she returned to New Mexico to complete her residency in Family Medicine at the University of New Mexico. She is committed to treating each patient with the same care and compassion she gives her own family members. In her down time she enjoys family time with her husband and young daughter, bicycling with her dad, and running with her dogs..
