Gena grew up on a farm in the woods in northern Minnesota, but is grateful she has called Lincoln her home for the past 20 plus years. She graduated with her practical nursing degree from Southeast Community College, Lincoln in 1997 and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Union College, Lincoln in 1999, where she received the award for “Clinical Excellence” in nursing. She completed her Masters of Science in nursing as a Family Practice Nurse Practitioner at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2004. In 2013, Gena was honored and humbled to receive the March of Dimes “Excellence in Nursing” award.
Gena has a special place in her heart for empowering women to take care of their own bodies (self-love & respect of the amazing being that they are) as they transition into adults. She also enjoys the challenge of supporting women through the complex perimenopausal years, by replacing and balancing their hormones. She believes in supporting her clients with traditional as well as alternative forms of hormone replacement on their personal journey to “wellness” for both women and men. Gena, loves supporting young families, fostering parental resilience and understands the intimate support new mothers need during the postpartum period, as well as the continued support mothers and fathers crave as they become a confident, intentional, thoughtful, and resilient parent.
Gena is certified by the ASCCP in Colposcopy, board certified in Family Practice by the ANCC, member of Sigma Theta Tau International-honor society for nurses, a member of the Nebraska Nurse Practitioners Association, and an active supporter of the Lincoln Community. “Lincoln is a great place to raise children and we have to keep it that way.” Gena and her husband enjoy a healthy “active” family life; filled with their daughters, box gardening, camping, water skiing, hiking, biking and trail running.
Service Work: Gena is grateful she has been able to provide medical mission support in Nicaragua and Haiti, by providing cervical cancer screening, primary and pediatric care, as well as prenatal, antenatal and delivery care. Gena has also enjoyed her teaching opportunities of Nursing and Physician Assistant students on medical mission trips to Nicaragua. Gena also enjoys being a part of the local Lincoln community by volunteering at Clinic with a Heart in Lincoln, NE. In addition, Gena provides consultations to community leaders on maternal and family health and multiple public speaking engagements to promote human wellness – on many levels, and is an active volunteer in her church and the school her daughters’ attend.
