April Kimmel, PA-C

April grew up in Destin, Florida and moved to Panama City just prior to high school.
April returned to Panama City after completing her Master of Physician Assistant Studies in August 2012 at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

For the past 9 years April has been working in emergency medicine as a PA at both of

the local hospitals. It was in December 2019 when she stated her own weight loss

journey with a friend and now business partner. Through this journey, she realized there was a great need in this area for a medical weight management center specializing in treating weight as a chronic disease. April learned there was no magic wand and no quick fix, and that she would be battling her weight for the rest of her life. She also learned she had to stop beating herself up about being overweight. “Life happens and then you gain weight” not to mention fighting the body’s physiology. No one had taught her that before. Once she took the guilt out of fat and being overweight it gave her the power to take control of her health and wellness.

Prior to deciding to open Piece of Cake Weight Management and Wellness, April

received a Certificate of Advanced Education in Obesity Medicine from the Obesity

Medical Association. Her passion for medicine and helping others has never

waned. With her new “lighter” lease on life she knew it was time to use her knowledge

and passion to assist Bay County to meet their weight an wellness goals. April is

committed to the health and wellness of her patients. After all of her time in the

emergency department she now would like to help people avoid the medical

complications that frequently lead to ER visits.

April is a wife to her husband Jeremy and mother to a 180-pound English Mastiff named Big Ben. April also enjoys offshore fishing, boating, snow and water skiing, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends.
