From the time he was a child up until the day he was accepted into medical school, Dr. Brian Moraes wanted to be anything other than a physician. Unfortunately, he was destined to follow the path of both his parents, grandfather and multiple uncles as professional YouTuber was not yet a thing. It was this initial reluctance to follow the family trade that led to a somewhat skewed approach to western medicine. From the beginning, Dr. Moraes was drawn to the DO (Doctor of Osteopathy) approach of treating the body as a whole entity as opposed to a series of unrelated organ systems and diseases. While his classmates were interested in sub-specializing, Dr. Moraes wanted to learn as much about the functions and interrelations of the entire human organism right down to the cellular and biochemical level. After medical school, he went on to an Internal Medicine residency at Tulane University in New Orleans. He mostly went for the food but ended up getting a pretty phenomenal education in the bargain. He trained at the legendary Charity Hospital. Although it was destroyed after Hurricane Katrina, you can still see a remnant of it in his waiting room.
It is generally regarded that Nephrology is one of the most cerebral
disciplines in medicine. In order to further challenge himself and to help him be a better Internist, Dr. Moraes stayed on to complete a fellowship in Nephrology and Hypertension. Upon finishing his training, he moved back to South Florida where he grew up and opened his own private practice. Although his primary care practice became very successful, he still felt that something was lacking. Despite doing everything considered “standard of care” by textbooks and algorithms, patients could be living longer but not necessarily healthier or happier. It took years and plenty of “thinking outside the box” to develop the protocols that make up the Hybrid Medical Solution. His underlying guiding principle has always been that less medication equals better quality of life. He adamantly stood by his principles even as his colleagues dismissed his non-traditional approach. In the end, he knew he had been validated when many of those physicians began coming to him and sending their family members to him as patients. Today, Hybrid Medical Solution has patients who travel from all over the country just for their medical care. Dr. Moraes was one of the first DOs in the country to be named a Fellow of The American College of Preventive Cardiology. He had a hand in the creation of Excel Medical Clinical Trials, one of the preeminent clinical trial sites in South Florida.
Dr. Moraes has a diverse range of interests and hobbies. He is non-discriminating reader, eclectic music lover and a big fan of art-house and foreign films. He has found ways to incorporate a multitude of these diverse interests into “the art of medicine”.
Dr. Moraes has a daughter who also has no interest in being a doctor. She will most likely be joining his practice in a few years.
Deanna grew up in a small mid-western town in southern Illinois.
She was always on the go and threw herself into a multitude of diverse activities. She played the organ at her church for several years. Her first passion in life was sports. Deanna participated in every athletic endeavor possible.
She excelled in soccer throughout High School and college. Physical activity laid the groundwork for her philosophy regarding health later in life. Deanna had a passion for the medical field from a young age.
From High School right through to PA school she worked as a pharmacy technician.
After graduating from Elmhurst College in Chicago, she went to PA school at South University in Tampa, Florida.
She knew immediately that the only field of medicine for her was primary care. She enjoyed treating every aspect of a patient’s health as opposed to focusing on a single area.
Her initial job was at a very busy primary care office in Clearwater.
Although she loved this job, she still felt that traditional western medicine was lacking something.
Her next job was at a primary care clinic in Delray Beach that largely focused on mental health and substance abuse.
Although this job was challenging and emotionally draining, she did hone her skills in treating a variety of psychiatric conditions.
When Deanna began working with Dr. Moraes, she knew immediately that she found a kindred spirit who practiced the type of medicine that she had envisioned from the start of her career.
Together they have created protocols that combine traditional medicine, integrative medicine, nutrition, physical fitness and a strong focus on quality of life. Hybrid Medical Solution, as it is today, would never exist if it were not for Deanna’s enthusiasm, knowledge and talents.
